What is Mustard Seed?

What to Expect on Mission

Here is an example of what the week looks like from our past mission trips. An official schedule for your mission trip will be sent out a week before the trip.

Sample Schedule

Cost

Mustard Seed requires that we raise a minimum of $950 per person, which is one of their most consistent sources of income. Participants are also responsible for the cost of the flight, on average around $850. This constitutes the total cost of $1800 per participant.

Participants fundraise the cost of their mission trip through a Letter Writing Campaign and individual CrowdRise page.

We recommend $100 in USD for souvenirs — all food is included in the cost of the trip!

Mustard Seed Mission Trips

Mustard Seed has hosted short-term mission trips since 1993, a program based on meaningful interaction with children with disabilities, tangible work projects, and participation in authentic Catholic community. It exposes participants to the reality of poverty in the developing world, and provides opportunities for daily prayer, Adoration, and reflection.

Mustard Seed Communities began in 1978 in the impoverished community of Mona Common on the outskirts of Kingston, Jamaica, as a home for a handful of abandoned and disabled children. Today, they serve over 600 children and young adults with disabilities, those affected by HIV/AIDS, and teen mothers along with their babies. It also manages a number of community outreach programs that combat poverty and provide education to local populations.

We visit two locations, Sophie’s Place in Kingston and Jacob’s Ladder in Moneague.
